Family course: Fire - Part 1

Continuation of our Paleo course played by the whole Kepinski clan!

Today I taught them the techniques of fire obtaining.
The program includes percussion and friction.
My trainees are 7, 12, 15, and 40 years old. It's a very good age group, showing especially that everyone can make their own prehistoric fire.

Prehistoric fire is a very fascinating activity, everyone has worked hard to make this task a success.
In short, it is a magical experience. Including me, I don't even get tired of it!

Imagining that I have nothing to heat myself, the success of obtaining embers becomes essential. Today, the fire commonly used to light our fireplaces with modern means is no longer considered vital by man. Alone in the face of this ancestral technique, I worship and respect it even more after having tried with vivacity and "relentlessly" to obtain magic embers. The smell, the contact, the sound all our senses are awakened!

Yannick, our course supervisor, is really attentive and patient, his explanations are clear and they guide us through our difficulties.

Making the fire by friction was a very enriching experience for me.

First of all, I had some difficulties: you have to get the right compromise with the speed and pressure exerted on the drill. Once the principle was assimilated, I still had to do many tests before I could get a result. The most exciting moment occurs when smoke appears. From then on I stop, remove the board and unveil the ember....

This initiation allowed me to touch with my finger the daily life of our ancestors, I am very happy with it!

After having prepared my amadou, I hit my flint on the marcasite. I manage to make sparks, and all of a sudden, one of them sets him on fire! I was very happy to make my first embrace, it was magical and great!

I took a flint and marcassite to make the fire and then a flint and pyrite. I put tinder in a shell to give birth to my baby fire. I managed to make sparks with the marcassite and made lots of baby fires.

It was cool!
