This piece is part of our Native American-inspired series.
I knapped a blade from opaque red and black obsidian from America: it's as close as I could get to the idea of this prehistoric knife, which may also have come from America.
The blade is glued to the handle with a prehistoric glue also used by North American Amerindians. Essentially made of resin, this glue is then reinforced with a ligature of deer sinew coated with sinew glue.
The antler handle is engraved with a hunting scene colored in red ochre.
The fringed case is made from raw leather covered with traditionally tanned deerskin.
Anita added a few bone and jasper beads to decorate it.
As usual, I gave the look of a set worn and used by its owner by applying a light patina to the piece. The result is the appearance of a case and knife that have already been worn by its owner for several years.
